Inside
This Issue
From
the Editor
This is the first edition of a new electronic publication
that will attempt to strengthen the linkages between members
of the World Academy of Productivity Science (WAPS). This
WAPS NETWORK NEWS is the successor
to the print newsletter WAPS NEWS that has been produced so
faithfully by Dr A. N. Saxena, Executive Vice-President of
WAPS. I am truly indebted to Dr. Saxena for his years of service
to the WAPS community and to his efforts to keep the communication
flowing.
In this new publication, we will rely heavily on news and
information from around the world provided by our WAPS Regional
Coordinator Network and from individual WAPs Fellows. The
current regional coordinators arelisted on page 3 of this
newsletter. We will be adding others to this network of Regional
Coordinators as we move closer to the World Productivity Congress
in South Africa in
September of 2008.
The role of Regional Coordinators will be to serve as the
focal point for WAPS within their region. They will maintain
contact with Fellows in their region and work with the WAPS
Board to publicize the contributions made by Fellows. In addition,
Regional Coordinators will help organize delegations for the
World Productivity Congresses, will coordinate new Fellow
identification and screening, and will encourage regional
events that support the mission of the World Confederation
of Productivity Science.
The WAPS NETWORK NEWS will provide
a mechanism for Regional Coordinators to share the accomplishments
of Fellows in their regions. This will provide a mechanism
that will allow us to demonstrate how we are promoting
peace and prosperity through productivity.
As editor of the WAPS Network News and as President of WAPS,
I welcome your suggestions and feedback for this publication.
You can reach me at tctuttle@aol.com.

Call
for New Fellows of the Academy - 2008
Fellows of the World Academy of Productivity
Science (WAPS) are women and men who are recognized by their
peers and by their communities for their knowledge creation
and sharing, performance results achieved and/or policy implementation
accomplishments that distinguish them as contributors to the
field of productivity science. The Academy limits its global
membership to a maximum of 500 Active Fellows at any one time.
Criteria
for Nominating a Fellow of the Academy
Given the purpose of The Confederation, Fellows of The Academy
should be those who deserve encouragement and recognition
for innovating, sharing and implementing their productivity-related
ideas and experience in service to humankind. Fellows of the
Academy are viewed as role models for their field and their
community and therefore must promote and exhibit high standards
of professional ethics.
Some Fellows merit this distinction through their achievements
in knowledge creation and dissemination. This may include
distinction in research, publishing, teaching or consulting.
These individuals may be leaders in academia or consulting
and have made significant contributions to the body of knowledge
in the field of productivity science through, books, journal
articles, presentations and other scientific contributions.
Some may establish and lead productivity centers that contribute
to the enhancement of economic development and quality of
life improvements in their nations or regions through productivity
improvement.
Another group of Fellows are recognized by the Academy for
their contributions and achievements as Business Leaders,
Labor Organization Leaders or Entrepreneurs. These individuals
are leaders who have achieved business results and benefits
for stakeholders through the application of productivity science
in private sector organizations in the profit and not for
profit sectors. In addition their organizations are noteworthy
for their emphasis on triple bottom line results – economic,
environmental and social.
A third group of Fellows have achieved their distinction
through their leadership in public sector organizations that
have demonstrated the ability to achieve productivity results
within their organizations as well as those who have shown
effective leadership in policy development and implementation
that contributes to productive local, regional and national
economies.
Expectations
of Fellows
Selection as a Fellow in WAPS is not only and honor but
also a social responsibility. Fellows are expected to actively
participate in activities organized by WAPS and WCPS and to
work effectively to enhance the goals of WAPS and WCPS.
In particular, Fellows are expected to attend World Congresses,
Regional Assemblys, and maintain contact with Fellows in their
Region. At least annually, Fellows are expected to share with
WAPS their “stories” which are examples of accomplishments
they have made during the year. This is a concrete way that
enable the Academy to demonstrate how its Fellows are making
a difference in the world and how together we are achieving
Peace and Prosperity Through Productivity.
Progress
for Nominating Fellows
Nominations are solicited from existing Fellows of the Academy.
Any Fellow may nominate a candidate using the form on page
6. The first step in the screening process is handled by the
Regional WAPS Coordinators. Each Region is urged to establish
a screening team comprised of existing Fellows.
Nominations are reviewed by this team in accordance with
the criteria stated above. Regions may augment or adapt the
criteria stated above without altering the intent of the Criteria.
Regional coordinators will submit to the WAPS Board their
recommendations for Fellows by July 30,2008. The WAPS Board
makes the final selection from the nominees submitted by Regional
Coordinators. Each nominee must have a completed nomination
form, a resume or bio-sketch, and an email address. In addition,
prior to induction, each recommended Fellow must accept the
nomination and agree to abide by the expectations of Fellows
and to fulfill their obligations to the WAPS and WCPS.
In those parts of the world where Regional Coordinators have
not yet been named, e.g. South America, the WAPS President,
Dr. Thomas C. Tuttle will serve as the Regional Coordinator.
Nominations from these areas should be sent to Dr. Tuttle
at tctuttle@aol.com
as well as to the WCPS Secretariat WCPS@affaires.com.

WAPS
Fellows – Tell us your story
The intellectual capital of the World Confederation of Productivity
Science (WCPS) lies largely in the Academy ( the World Academy
of Productivity Science or WAPS). In the language of knowledge
management, this intellectual capital rests in the tacit knowledge
of our Fellows We have in the Academy over 400 distinguished
colleagues who have been inducted since it was founded in
1988 at the Montreal World Productivity Congress.
After becoming President of WAPS in 2006, I realized we have
several problems. First, we have great difficulty communicating
with our Fellows. Second, we had no effective way to leverage
our Fellow Network for the benefit of WCPS. In other words,
while we could claim that the organization has 400 distinguished
Fellows, we had great difficulty convincing those who do not
know WCPS or WAPS of that fact. This situation became obvious
recently as we were attempting to seek funding from a major
international development bank for a regional productivity
assembly to promote our cause in a part of the world where
we have not been well represented. Our inability to convey
to the potential funder the power and capability represented
by our Fellow network led to reduced credibility for WCPS
and our inability to obtain funding for WCPS/WAPS to conduct
the event.
The issue is much larger than this example regarding funding.
The same problems would prevent us from sharing with the world
how our Fellows are making the world a better place through
their productivity improvement efforts. We all need to be
able to promote our efforts and show how we are making a difference.
Therefore, as President of WAPS, I am asking each Fellow
to do two things.
- Complete the “My Story” form that is included
with this newsletter. (Click here to see
an example of a Fellows Story)
- Send an email with the “My Story” form to
me at tctuttle@aol.com.
I will assemble these stories into a document that we will
distribute in South Africa to all delegates at the Fellow
induction ceremony. The purpose of this document will be to
explain how the Fellows of WAPS are making a difference in
the world. Also, all who return these forms and who send the
email will be considered Active Fellows of the Academy.
